Pooches: Settling In!

Well!  The last week and a half has been caarazy.  Between packing, moving, trying to make the dogs feel at home in our new place and my impending move to Northern California to work at overnight camp for the summer...we've been busy.

The pooches were not exactly helpful in the unpacking process.
But Maggie is incredibly excited to have windows in our new house.  She LOOOOVES windows.  Nigel seems to like them too but Maggie may have an obsession.
Girl's got some crazy looking out the window eyes.
And of course, it's very tiring to move to a new place.

Non-crazy eyes.
Overall, they've been adjusting nicely.  Maggie did bark her little fuzzy head off the other night when we left them for about 30 minutes but luckily, we have a wonderful next door neighbor who is SO understanding about the noise.  Hopefully she'll chill out soon because she was a crazy barker in the old place for a little while.

The best thing we did though was having them at daycare during the move and then having their stuff ready when they got home.  It definitely made the transition easier.

To new places and adventures!!!

Pooches: Cuddling Bandits!

I know that many families don't allow their dogs on furniture BUT we're pushovers and love cuddling.

Besides, don't they just look so comfy!?!?

I WILL fit all my 59 pounds into a tiny space.  Thanks, sister.

Pocket Pittie...ON THE MOVE!!

Well, we have been really quite busy the last few weeks.  Between finals, trying to eat healthy and play with the pups, and finding a new place to live, we have just been bogged down.

But we DID find a new place to live!!  And the absolute best part about it is that it has a YARD!!! It's a small yard (we live in LA, after all!) but it's big enough for the pooches and us to hang outside and have barbecues.  There's even a doggie door!!  (Can you tell I'm excited!??!  Look at all those exclamation points!!!!!!)

As long as you bring our food to the new place, I'll stop snacking on Maggie's tush.
Move!?  Nah, I'm comfy here, thanks.
So, now I"m on the prowl for tips about moving with doggies.  So far, here is what I have gleaned from the Internet so far.

Some advice from Love and a Six Foot Leash moving pros:
Make an "open me first" box for your dog.
We're going to create a box of doggie essentials that we know Maggie and Nigel will need right away in the new place.  This will include their bowls, leashes, crate stuff, documentation all in one place, some treats, antlers, any medicine they may need soon after moving and Kongs.  We're going to pick the place for their crates as soon as we can so that they are all set up when they get to their new home!

Give your pooch a vacation!
We love this piece of advice and are DEFINITELY going to bring the pooches to daycare for at least the big moving truck day.  We may end up bringing them for the night before when we are going to (inevitably) be finishing packing everything up.  We're hoping this will reduce any stress they have about seeing everything moved and random people coming in and out of the house.  Let's be honest, they are still learning manners when guests come so it would be a bit of a crazy house if they kept greeting everyone.

One nugget of advice from a NY Daily News Article
Keep the windows open!
They're going to be painting and tidying up in our new place before we move in so there are going to be lots of lingering fumes and icky smells at first.  Keeping the windows open for a day or two will help air some of that out so the doggies don't get ill from the stinkiness.

Do you have other awesome advice for us while we get packed up and moved into the new place!?

Giveaway Winner and Pictures Wednesday (I used words)!

Congratulations to Emily from Adventures of a Dog Mom for winning our very first pin giveaway!!!  We'll keep you posted about the rescue organization Emily chooses and what the final design looks like.  Congrats Emily and thank you to everyone else who entered!  Stay tuned...there will be more giveaways in the future!

And just a few cute pictures of the smooches since I'm in the midst of writing final papers.  I call this selection: Tushes, Ears, and Snout, OH MY!

This last one is Maggie's awesome "I SEE SOMETHING OUT THE WINDOW" face.  Sometimes, it's really intense and hilarious looking but I have yet to capture it on camera.

Happy Wednesday!!!
